Biography: Bret Jamison McKenas was born to parents Warren & Cecily McKenas of Syracuse, New York in early April of 1976. He was the first born to the family - older brother to a younger sister. From an early age, Bret always liked music. He spent his hard earned allowances on as many different albums he could get his hands on. His father was primarily a classic rock fan, but Bret soon moved on from that influence to pick up his own influences in soul, pop, and the emerging genre of hip hop. To ask his first girlfriend out, he made her a mix tape of his favorite songs about having a crush on someone instead of asking her out. Needless to say, he won the girl. As technology and the music world changed, so did Bret's taste. When he was in college at Syracuse University, he saw a job opening in the student paper looking for kids to play disc jockey at a local bar. He went and applied for the job, not really knowing what he was getting himself into. Luckily, the owner of the bar was pretty easy to work with, and Bret soon found himself enjoying his work -- and a use for his endless piles of albums that was ever growing. Soon, Bret earned himself a reputation as being a good DJ, and started to play for local parties and guest playing at clubs and other bars in the Upper State New York area. He invested in a small set of equipment to travel around with him, which he still owns to this day to remind him where he came from. Bret graduated with a degree in music production from the University of Syracuse in 1998. From there he furthered his building career by accepting any job offers from clubs around the country who might be interested in having an out of town DJ perform, as he was building up his own sense of style and credibility in his career. Bret is known for his distinctive style of bass beats in his music. In the summer of 2002, he came up with the song idea for 'Satisfaction' which slowly snowballed into a club hit around the nation and soon the world. Bret was floored, and soon found himself with small label knocking at his door wanting him to record his tracks and release them to the public. Since earning himself a place in the recording world, he mostly bases himself out of Miami, Florida -- and travels to play shows all over the world. He also steadily remixes some of today's hottest hits, and has released a couple of remix albums to his own credit as well. He's also known for agreeing to a wide range of other album production for a list of other artists. Bret has never set out to be something other than himself, and he's proud that he doesn't seem to have slipped from his goal yet.
